Allan and David Cook founded Alcon Construction, Inc. in 1974 as Alamosa Concrete with a vision of building relationships in the San Luis Valley and surrounding areas through project services and delivering on commitments. Both were trained from youth by their father who was a carpenter/home builder. The business is still family owned and operated with David Cook and his son, Brian Cook.
Brian leads business development efforts for Alcon. He oversees sales, estimating and project management. He helps ensure estimates are accurate and competitive and they meet or exceed specifications. Brian works with the company’s project managers regularly, collaborating with all the different parties involved to meet deadlines, efficiently provide the highest quality of product/services and maintain safety as a priority.
Brian is an Alamosa native and was also raised in the construction industry. At the age of 23 he started his own equipment rental business. After selling that in 2009, he joined the executive team at Alcon Construction, Inc. In his years with Alcon, the company has seen it highest level of sales and received their largest project to date.
His varied business experience has helped him grow Alcon while establishing relationships with local businesses and individuals. He is a trusted and respected figure in the local community. Brian and his wife, Alicia, are members of the Alamosa County Economic Development Corporation. They appreciate the opportunity to help the economic development in the community!
Dave has been project manager for construction of numerous projects. These have varied greatly in scope and include, but are not limited to: school construction, multiple story steel erection for condominiums, steel erection for the local university theater, steel erection for several Holiday Inn Express motels, office rental buildings, golf course clubhouses, horse arenas, bridges, walk bridges, curb and gutter projects, crane work projects, tunnel repair, electrical substation foundation work, microwave tower foundation work, fuel containments, box culvert construction, and multiple family housing units. His farm building construction experience includes: potato warehouses, grain bin erection, and elevator leg installation.
Additionally, Dave has overseen numerous government projects. Alcon has contracted with government entities including many local city and county projects, state projects with the Colorado Department of Transportation, the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Division of Wildlife, and others.
Dave has always been open to learning new avenues of construction. He is also a certified crane inspector and operator. Dave brings decades of a “can do” attitude as well as experience to Alcon jobs. He is integral in ensuring projects stay on schedule.
As Treasurer, Georgia provides financial reporting and accounting for all areas related to Alcon’s project. She verifies all licensing, insurance, and bonding matters are in place for the start and duration of projects. Georgia is in charge of compliance to various federal, state, and local agencies as well as to applicable laws and regulations.
Georgia arrived in the San Luis Valley to attend Adams State Univeristy (then College) and pursue an Accounting degree. In 1974 she joined the team at Alcon Construction, Inc. (then Alamosa Concrete) and has been an integral part of helping the company grow and expand. She oversees the payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and human resource functions. Georgia ensures accurate and timely financial reporting and manages the financial and bonding needs of the company.
In her position, she ensures the requirements for numerous government projects are met, including projects with the Colorado Department of Energy, the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Department of Energy and Division of Wildlife.
Georgia brings a “can learn” positive attitude to the team, each and every day.
Allan started as the primary estimator for the company. As Alcon grew, he became the lead estimator and a project manager. The projects he has bid on and managed have ranged in size from thousands of dollars to millions of dollars. He has an expert knowledge of construction and estimating and is an AutoCAD professional. His CAD work helps the team evaluate and enhance the constructability of designs and improve the project delivery process. He helps deliver more effective planning, coordination and control through greater design insight and project predictability.
Allan’s extensive knowledge, attention to detail and persistence have helped Alcon Construction, Inc. win hundreds of projects. His passion to see all projects completed on time, within budget and to the customer’s satisfaction is unfaltering.
Alcon Construction, Inc. wouldn’t be where we are today without the dedication and expertise of our staff. Many of our employees have been with the company over twenty years, a handful have been with us over thirty years. Some started in the field and have grown into talented supervisors and project managers. Others started more recently but have already shown their passion and dedication.
